Additional Guidelines


  • Last date for paper submission is the 7th of September. However if teams wish to submit their papers on the day of the prelims, they may do so.
    If teams wish to submit papers on other days, they must inform the time they shall come to submit papers one day before they come (Contact no.s are provided at the end).
  • If a college is selected for the final round of the event “So you think you can teach?” 3-4 students from that college must be present in the auditorium at the time as mock students.
    Colleges who shall be selected to present papers are requested to send students to support their presenters.
  • Time for Eco Scribe:
                        3:30 PM (1st day)
    Please note that this teams, the same participant cannot participate in “Eco Scribe” and “So you think you can sell?”
  • Time for Eco cross:
                         9:30 AM (2nd day)
    Registration time is at 9 AM
  • Time for submission of entries for Eco reporter:
                           10 AM – 12:30 PM (1st day)

Information about Preliminary Events

Date: 2nd September 2010 (Thursday)


Budding Economist:

Time: 10 AM
Venue: Room 6
Rules
·         Each participant shall be given a sheet containing 20 questions
·         1 mark shall be awarded for each correct answer
·         Questions 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 are starred. In case of a tie, the one answering most starred questions will be selected.
·         There is no negative marking and minor spelling mistakes will be ignored 

So you think you can sell?

Time: 11 AM
Venue: Room 6
Rules
·         The participants will be given a product on the spot, which they must advertise.
·         Participants will be given an A4 paper, in which they must create an advertisement for the products.
·         Only pencils, erasers, felt pens and rulers may be used to create the advertisement.
·         Total time : 25 + 5mins
·         Only A4 papers will be provided for by the in-charges.


 Parley (Student debate)

Time: 1: 15 PM
Venue: Room 6
Motion: Boss’ Pay is none of the Government’s business
Rules
  • Each college must send only one (their best) speaker.
  • Speakers will get 3mins to speak either for or against the motion.
  • The colleges of the speakers who qualify for the final round, will have to send a team comprising of two speakers, one of whom shall speak for and the other against the motion of the final debate(which shall be declared later).


So you think you can teach?

Time: 1: 15 PM
Venue: Room 114
  • Participants should gather in room 6, from where they shall be escorted to room 114
  • The mock teachers will get 5 +1mins to deliver a lecture on any one of the two topics allocated
Topics:
    1. National Income Accounting (any one method)
    2. Income and Substitution Effect (Derivation of Slutsky equation is not necessary)


Note:
Participants should carry their college IDs and arrive at the front gate. As they arrive, they shall be escorted to the venues by our volunteers














Representatives' Meeting Report

  • There has been a minor change in the programme schedule. The revised programme schedule has been posted under Programme Schedule REVISED.
  • Certain events will require prelims. This set of prelims will be held this Thursday, the 2nd of September in the college premises. 

  • For colleges which did not attend the Representatives' Meeting:We shall require a list of participants from your college. The list of events and the no. of participants required is attached. We will be grateful if the names and contact details of the representative and the participants are given to us on the day of the prelims.

Representatives' Meeting






A representatives' meeting for CONFLUENCE 2010 will be organised on Saturday, the 28th of August 2010 at 1.15 PM
All colleges wishing to participate are requested to send a student representative at the representatives' meeting.

The representatives are requested to submit the names of students from their college who wish to participate in the various events of CONFLUENCE 2010 at the meeting itself.

We also take this opportunity to request all colleges to participate whole heartedly and make our event a success...

GENERAL GUIDELINES

DAY 1: 

Paper Presentation

An onstage event where participants will present original papers. 


Any one of the following topics to be chosen by each team:

· Food security in India

· Inflation in India

· Public and private health in India

· Capital Mobility and the Indian economy

· Oil Prices and Developing Countries
  1. Each college can submit a maximum of two papers. 
  2. Each team should comprise a maximum of four participants. 
  3. Teams must submit four hard copies and one soft copy of their papers by 7th September, 2010. 
  4. Eight papers will be short listed for the final presentation. 
  5. The selected teams should submit a soft copy (CD) of the Power point presentation latest by 17th September, 2010 
Each team will be allotted 15 minutes to present their paper, followed by a 2 minute question answer session with the judges.

Registration time: 9.30 am to 10.30 am
Reporting time: 12.15pm


Budding Economist 
An onstage event where students of economics get to put their knowledge of the subject to test.
  1. Each college is invited to send one participant. 
  2. There will be an off-stage screening. Eight contestants will be selected for the on-stage rounds. 
  3. The on-stage event would consist of four rounds. The first three rounds would be quizzing rounds at the end of which the first four contestants with maximum points will be short listed for the final extempore round. 
  4. The winner shall be decided on the basis of cumulative points earned in the first three rounds and the marks awarded by the judges in the final round. 
Registration time: 3.00pm to 4.00pm
Reporting time: 5.15pm



Eco Scribe (Off Stage)
An off-stage event where students display their flair for writing about economic issues

1.      There can be only one participant from each college.
2.      The topic will be given on the spot.
3.      The participants will be given exactly 1 hour to write.
4.      The event will be held on the 1st day of Confluence.
5.      The results will be announced on the second day.
Registration time: 9.30 am to 10.30 am




DAY 2:

So you think you can teach? 
An onstage event where the tables are turned and students get to be teachers! 






  1. There will be a maximum of one student from each college
  2. There will be an initial screening before Confluence. Eight participants will be chosen.
  3. Each participant will present on the final day on board
  4. The maximum allotted time is 10mins. + 2 mins for questions
  5. There will be maximum 1 question each judge, and 2 questions from the mock students in the event
The participants will be penalized for evasive answers or misdemeanour
Registration time: 10.00 am to 11.00 am
Reporting time: 12.45 pm


So you think you can sell? 
An onstage event where students try to sell a given product 


  1. There will be a maximum of one student from each college.
  2. There will be an initial screening before Confluence. Eight participants will be chosen. The details of the prelims will be announced on the day of the first representative meeting.
  3. Finalists will be given a product around 10 minutes before their on-stage performance by lottery.
  4. They have to market and sell the product in a span of 3 (2+1) minutes to the judges. The judges would then be asking them questions on their presentation.
The marketing of the product should be done in conformity with accepted academic norms. Any misconduct will lead to disqualification.
Registration time: 10.00 am to 11.00 am
Reporting time: 2.30 pm

Parley 
An onstage students’ debate.

1.Each college is invited to send one team consisting of two participants – one of whom must speak for the    motion and the other against.
2. The topic of the screening will be announced on the day of the first representatives’ meeting.
3. Five teams will be selected for the final round.
4. Each participant will be given 3 minutes for presenting their argument followed by a 2 minute question answer session with the judges
5. Contestants will be penalized proportionate to the time by which they exceed the limit.
6. Prizes will be awarded to the three best speakers and the best team.
Registration time: 3.00 pm to 4.00pm
Reporting time: 4.45 pm


Eco Cross (Off stage) 
An off-stage event comprising word games with an economic twist.
  1. There is no limit on the number of participants from each college. 
  2. Participants will be given 10 minutes to solve a crossword. 
  3. The winner will be selected on the basis of the most number of correct answers in a specified time. 
  4. In the event of a tie, there will be a play-off in a “Jumbled Words” game. The winner will be the one who gets the most answers in the specified time. 
Registration time: 10.00am to 11.00am 

Eco Reporter (Off stage) 
An off-stage event where students display their learning by giving it a real-world perspective. 
  1. There is no limit on the number of entries per college. 
  2. Each entry should be submitted by a team comprising two participants. 
  3. Participants are to submit an original picture with an accompanying caption on an A4 size sheet. 
  4. The image should include one member from the team.(This is to ensure genuine entries). Non-compliance would lead to disqualification. 
  5. The caption should be about100 words. 
  6. The entries must be submitted on the first day of the summit, i.e. 27th September, 2010. 
Registration time: 10.00am to 11.00am
